Staying in Las Vegas

Monday, March 23

We had planned to embark on another two year tour starting on March 4, 2020. Our first stop was going to be Rome followed by stays in Naples and Sicily before moving onto Vienna and the UK – for a start. Even at that early date Italy was hit pretty hard with the Corona Virus so we decided to cancel our trip and stay in Las Vegas.

We found a nice one-bedroom apartment and signed a one-year lease. We figured it would take at least that long until things calmed down and we could consider traveling once again. The apartment came unfurnished but we arranged to rent some for the year (who knew you could do that?) The apartment complex has swimming pools, bar-b-q grills and a fitness center and it’s close to everything. Just down the block there’s a large park with ball fields, tennis courts and walking paths.

We’ve been spending our days fairly quietly. We had intended to see some of the nearby National Parks but little by little they have been closing down. Most of the large tennis facilities are closed but I still manage to play in the city parks a few times a week. When I can’t find tennis partners I’ve been playing pickleball at a nearby park. Deborah has been doing a lot of shopping, cooking, walking and TV watching. Truth be told we’re going a little stir crazy but we’ll manage to get through.

Our best wishes to everyone. Stay safe, it’s a jungle out there.

(Yes, our home page is still showing the Parthenon. We should probably change it to something local but we really miss Europe and just love that picture.)
